Abstract

A museum in a library, a library in a museum – SDGs’ significant learning program for children and young adults

The partnership between the George Baritiu County Library Brasov and the Chemnitz Games Museum, an initiative of the Solaris Youth Research Center in Germany, took place between 2015-2018. The collaboration consisted in meetings between German and Romanian teenagers who discussed, approached and learnt about SDGs through games, a collection of 600 educational games related to different SDGs brought from Germany to Romania where they reached 11 libraries, 60 schools, and colleges, 2356 Romanian participants in games sessions and experience exchange among 100 librarians, curators, and educators. Activities: • Interactive exhibition and games sessions organized in 25% of county public libraries in Romania supporting environmental education • Presentations sustained in national and international conferences • Articles in professional journals (BUB, Germany, Nov. 2018) • Travelling Photovoice organized by Romanian teenagers on the SDGs subject for the German partner The impact: • Developing knowledge about SDGs in a friendly and inspirational way - using the method of learning by playing and discovering • Supporting intergenerational learning through educational games • Developing new professional and language skills • Changing the people perception about the library and museum Perspectives: • Workshops about: environmental protection, paper manufacturing, and processing, recycling art factory (2019) • A new eco-friendly building for the library based on the Solaris Group expertise(2020)
