Abstract

Telling Stories of Hangzhou Craftsmen, Cherishing Craftsman Spirit

“Hangzhou Craftsmen” program was launched in the beginning of 2016 and lasted throughout the year in Hangzhou Public Library. In early 2016, “Jing, Qi, Shen—Hangzhou Contemporary Craftsmanship Exhibition” opened to public, 17 craftsmen’s artworks gracefully laid in the library, telling the stories of local craftsmen to all visitors. At the same time, some of the craftsmen were invited to share their stories in workshops, welcoming more citizens to understand the spirit of craftsmanship. In late 2016, the book “Hangzhou Craftsmen” got published, with pictures and articles introducing 65 craftsmen, perfectly explaining the craftsman spirit. 5 years ago, Hangzhou was formally approved as the First Capital of Crafts and Folk Arts of China by UNESCO. We hope that through the “Hangzhou Craftsmen” program, it will help to soothe the society’s blundering mood on some level, and promote Hangzhou become a highland of “Craftsman Culture”.
