Abstract

KORCIS (Korean Old and Rare Collection Information System) Service: Solidarity with Libraries in Korea and Abroad

KORCIS, a one-stop service empowered by solidarity with libraries to be provided for the society under the 2017 WLIC theme of “Libraries. Solidarity. Society”. KORCIS (Korean Old and Rare Collection Information System) enables users to search the catalog, table of contents, annotation and full-text of old Korean documents located in Korea and abroad on a single website (https://www.nl.go.kr/korcis/). As locations of documents are linked, users can easily know which library owns the book they are looking for. Currently, the catalog contains 450,000 bibliographic data and 42,000 full-text data from 60 domestic organizations and 37 overseas locations. In the future, this system will grow into a full-range one-stop service of old and rare Korean documents located both at home and abroad. Using visual elements such as photographs and data samples, I created a poster that presents this project. The poster displays both the user’s and the librarian’s perspective, showing how users can search data and see the result and how librarians enter, change and upload local MARC.
