Abstract
Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Library, Doha, Qatar – Outreach and increasing visitors to our library
“Even though Qatar now has a high literacy rate in the past it had more of an oral tradition of story- telling and libraries were small and usually inside the mosque. The first public library in Qatar was opened in 1962 (Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariyya)” Section 1 - History & Challenges: The first part of the poster shows history of Libraries in Qatar moving from an oral tradition to modern libraries (1878 to 2018). This section illustrates the history of libraries in Qatar and the challenges. It gives an introduction to Qatar and the Museum of Islamic Art, including points on - Libraries in Qatar, MIA Library and the challenges faced by libraries trying to create relevance. It will include a time line, images of libraries and some quick stats about libraries in Qatar. Section 2 of the poster – Community Outreach Programs: This section will shows interesting images of community outreach programs such as: Collectors Club, Children’s Story-times, Book Clubs and Library exhibitions. It includes examples of lots of good quality photographs and samples of library activities. Section 3 of the poster – Current Results & Future Projects: This section shows current and projected visitor statistics. It explains what is working well to increase visitors and what challenges remain for MIA Library.
