Abstract
Digital libraries to boost reading in disadvantaged schools: the example of Senegal
Digital libraries play an important role in the promotion of literacy and the development of reading and culture. They provide easy access to information and contribute to its democratisation. In Senegal, many schools lack physical libraries and especially in rural areas, which hampers access to information for students. This article is inspired by a project financed by UNICEF Senegal and which involves setting up a digital library for 20 schools in the Tambacounda region of Senegal. This project fully participates in building students' capacities, developing reading in disadvantaged schools by offering them free and free documentation in the educational and cultural fields. Since the paper book is too expensive and sometimes non-existent in school libraries, this project fills the information gap existing in Senegalese schools and especially in rural areas.
Item Type: | Conference or Workshop Item (Paper) | ||||||
