Abstract

The SELADOC database began in 1973, associated with the interest of the Faculty of Theology in investigating the theological production in Latin-America. It was established with the aim of selecting, collecting, organizing and classifying the theological production published in journals of the discipline, that at the time it was very difficult to recover. It thus offers an updated Information Service, unique to the global academic community. The database specializes in journals that represent an indisputable source for the study of the various regional theological topics (Ethics, History, Pastoral, Social Movements, Liberation Theology and Popular Piety.) This database can be accesed by the on-line catalogue ALEPH and in conjunction with other databases of the theological area, through Multibúsqueda, implemented in the SIBUC (UC Library System) web portal. (http://bibliotecas.uc.cl) . Additionally, together with Alerta al Conocimiento SA., it was included within Metalib and can be accesed through http://www.alerta.cl SELADOC is the only source that indexes articles from major Latin American journals. All of these journals are monitored by professors and researchers from the Faculty of Theology. Of these, 9 are journals of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, including 2 titles that have ISI category. Of the total, 23 are not indexed in any other database. The 102 remaining journals are indexed in Dialnet, Index Theologicus, Francis and Latindex. Due to several factors, this database presents problems that affect the quality of some records. Therefore, at this moment, staff is working on the standardization of bibliographic records. Since the beginning of december 2012, the Cataloguing Department has corrected more than 3000 records. This work is funded by the Faculty of Theology.
