Abstract

Automated Creation of BIBFRAME Data Using MARCEdit Testing BIBFRAME Crosswalk of the Croatian National Bibliography

Libraries have low visibility in general but even more in visibility and publicly unawareness of quality bibliographic data especially on the Web. To change that, in 2011, the Library of Congress in Washington launched an initiative to create a new conceptual model which should inherit the MARC format and the BIBFRAME (Bibliographic Framework) model was been introduced. BIBFRAME is a conceptual model of bibliographic description that will use the Resource Description Framework (RDF) to compile libraries in accordance with the semantic web environment. The crucial in transition to a new model and new environment will be mapping and alignment of data. This poster presents a brief overview of the basic principles of BIBFRAM and steps needed to convert “old” model in MARC format of bibliographic data to BIBFRAME model in RDF/xml format.
