Abstract

Open Access Korea (OAK): A leading institution in Open Access and the sharing of knowledge information in Korea

Open Access Korea (OAK) was founded in 2009 as a knowledge cooperation community inviting the participation of all persons and institutions including government agencies, private sector institutions, researchers, academic associations, libraries and research institutes. OAK intends to establish an OAK authority through major projects including technology development (infrastructure), policy research (methods), and business models (projects). OAK is continuously operating projects which focus on developing and providing a repository, providing an Open Access integrated information service, providing XML source document services for Open Access journals, and holding events and PR activities to promote Open Access and facilitate cooperation. 450,000 contents that were archived after being received from 36 institutional repositories are currently available for search and use as metadata on the OAK Portal (oak.go.kr), and 9,000 XML source documents for journals are available on the OAK Central website (central.oak.go.kr). Furthermore, the Korea Journal Copyright Information website (copyright.oak.go.kr) was developed in 2015 to be used as a window for providing journal copyright policy services. As a knowledge institution, OAK will continue to lead in the sharing of knowledge and communication in Korea by promoting Open Access.
