Abstract

Libraries going green

A national campaign “Future Library” was established for reinforcing the role of Greek public and municipal libraries. Throughout these years, various collaborations formed such as this with the WWF Greece. WWF Greece aims at improving citizens’ habits by adapting a sustainable lifestyle in accordance with the UN SDG 13. WWF Greece designed projects suitable for children 6-12 years old inviting them to adopt an ecofriendly behavior and live in harmony with nature in cities. The projects combined activities starting with reading a relevant book and ending in outdoor activities outside the library offering children a vivid experience. The main thematic pillars were the public transportation, the urban green and the urban biodiversity. This fruitful collaboration based on libraries’ readiness to think out of the box and be more creative by giving children the chance to think how their way of life affects planet. The above experience is transferred through the poster in order to inspire the attendees (especially those from other countries) not only to look for further collaborations, but also to expand the spectrum of their activities. Poster presents the photographs from the activities and the main elements that were required for changing an ordinary thinking.
