Abstract

Library branches: The capital and the province are being connected!

During this period of crisis the academic library of the TEI of Western Greece in Patras, has achieved not only to sustain its potential even with little funding, but in addition, to reopen a branch with was closed for almost 4 years. Recently, the branch which is located at Pyrgos, the capital of Ilia prefecture, reopened its doors to the 2.150 students and academic personnel of the local Department of Administration, of Cultural and Touristic Units. This library branch was closed due to lack of personnel but this year with great efforts of the manager and stuff of the Central Library of Patras the doors opened again, this time for good. The collection has been enriched with a great amount of historic and cultural books from the main collection of Patras for the needs of the local community. Moreover, has reopened as well the computer center of the library where the students can have access in the full online catalogue and online services of the library. In conclusion, the Central library has now a dynamic of 4 branches, to 4 different geographical sides (Pyrgos, Aigio, Mesologgi, Antirrio) serving a total of 15.000 students, academic stuff and 3.000 external users.
