Abstract

Open Educational Resources in academic libraries – TIB approach

With the increasing digitalisation of higher education and changing teaching and learning processes, the demand for dynamic, freely reusable content is growing. Their collaborative processing and further development creates new challenges not only for university teacher and students but also for the infrastructure. Academic libraries actively support this process by providing collaborative work environments as well as distributed repositories for the search for content. Even today, open courses can be created in GitLab or Wikis. Free content from Youtube, flickr, Instagram, Pixabay, Tutory and other sources with Creative Commons licenses provide a legally compliant source for subsequent use. In addition to collaboration, Git-based systems and wikis allow content to be versioned. This creates new tasks for academic libraries, which can, for example, facilitate access to these possibilities in the context of training courses. Other tasks include quality assurance of content and the assignment of consistent metadata to make digital content easier to find. As the largest special library for Science and Technology and the University Library of Hanover, the TIB is committed to the OER idea and is working on the development of an OER repository based on the freely reusable open source software edu-sharing. The platform supports the integration of the current learning management systems Stud.IP, Moodle and Ilias as well as the linking of open courses on the internet. The poster is related to SDG 4 – Quality Education
