CORAI - Counseling, Orientation, Responsibility through an Informative Approach - New Services for the Local Community in the Romanian Public Libraries

The Northern Branch of Medgidia Municipal Library ensures each member of the community information and quality developing services, under appropriate conditions, making use of innovation, creativity and collaboration for the improvement of knowledge, to sustain the permanent education, the social blending and the diversity. CORAI - Counseling, Orientation, Responsibility through an Informative Approach aims to increase education among children, youth and adults using formal and non-formal education in health and a healthy living. Informing people about breast and cervical cancer is the first educational step in prevention using non-formal education methods with a powerful awareness effect. During implementation, we organized 14 informal learning sessions, 32 creativity workshops, 3 FlashMobs, a support-group for oncological patients mediated by a psychologist and also distributed 5000 pieces informational materials. This project helped 8550 beneficiaries by the fact that people become more aware, more responsible, interact and exchange views in sessions and workshops and at the same time are more attentive to their health. The project also succeeded to change the mentalities, to determine people to be more involved in changing their lives and becoming more responsible regarding their health. Through awareness campaigns, organization of workshops, seminars, we wanted to increase the number of women who detect cancer in early stages and raise awareness of breast self-knowledge, clinical screening and diagnosis services available and now at the end of the project we are confident we managed to change things for the better in the local community. "Take care of yourself, your health comes first!" The education in prevention is very important because an informed community that knows the risks it is exposed to, will be able to take the necessary measures to eradicate them.
