Abstract

Users’ opinion on the use of social media tools by public libraries, Iran

The aim of present study is to explore the users’ opinion of public libraries in Iran, regarding the use of social media tools by public libraries and their expectation from the library through social media and to study for what purpose(s) users use these tools. A web-based questionnaire was used to collect data from users in the public libraries of Iran. The study shows that most of the users are in favor of using the social media tools by the public libraries in Iran and they think that social media can enhance the quality of services provided by the public libraries in Iran. Also, they use social media for personal purpose. The findings of this study will contribute to the successful adoption of social media in public libraries. It is a useful source for implementing social media in public libraries. Also, this study will help librarians to understand the users’ needs about social media in order to improve their library services.
