Libraries in the western developed countries have moved faster in this direction and also innovated a lot during the past 20 years in terms of their internal practices and information services for users proving they have what it takes to be a learning organisation. But what is the situation of libraries in other countries? Within 2004 - 2009 we conducted a research on knowledge management in Romanian academic libraries which resulted in developing a strategic model for implementation of this process and also a framework for creating a culture of learning and knowledge sharing in these structures. In 2012 we resumed our research at the level of Romanian academic libraries this time focusing on their transformation into learning organisations and on their co-operation relationships. This paper will present the results of one of the studies in the current research which tried to determine if there is openness and interest in becoming learning organisations, if Romanian academic libraries display characteristics and practices which define a learning organisation, how learning is perceived at the level of these libraries’ directors, how the issue of the continuous improvement is approached and what internal learning programs are in place. The study is based on the result of interviews with academic libraries’ directors and library branch heads in Romania. The interviews were conducted through e-mail using a structured and open-ended questionnaire. Las bibliotecas de los países desarrollados occidentales se han movido más rápido en esta dirección y también han innovado mucho durante los últimos 20 años en cuanto a sus prácticas internas y servicios de información para los usuarios, demostrando que tienen todo lo necesario para ser una organización inteligente. Pero, ¿cuál es la situación de las bibliotecas de otros países? En 2004-2009 se realizó una investigación sobre gestión del conocimiento en las bibliotecas académicas rumanas que resultó en el desarrollo de un modelo estratégico para la implementación de este proceso y también un marco para la creación de una cultura de aprendizaje e intercambio de conocimientos en estas entidades. En 2012 retomamos nuestra investigación en el ámbito de las bibliotecas académicas rumanas, esta vez centrándonos en su transformación en organizaciones inteligentes y en sus relaciones de cooperación. Este documento presentará los resultados de uno de los estudios de la línea de investigación actual, el cual trató de determinar si hay actitud receptiva e interés en convertirse en organizaciones inteligentes, si las bibliotecas académicas rumanas muestran las características y prácticas que definen una organización inteligente, cómo el aprendizaje es percibido a nivel de directores de estas bibliotecas, cómo se aborda el tema de la mejora continua, y que programas de aprendizaje internos están presentes. El estudio se basa en el resultado de las entrevistas con los directores de las bibliotecas académicas y jefes de sus sucursales en Rumania. Las entrevistas se realizaron a través de correo electrónico mediante un cuestionario entidaddo y abierto.
