Abstract

iLib Guider: An Integrated and Multifunctional Library Indoor Positioning APP in Taiwan

The National Library of Public Information (NLPI), a national public library in Taiwan, launched a brand-new app iLib Guider in 2018, winning the 2018 100 IT Innovative Elite Prize in Taiwan. It is a multifunctional app of public library indoor positioning system with three major service functions on mobile devices as follows. 1. First, the functions for physical books positioning and checking out easily. As the APP is connected to NLPI’s library automation system, library users can look through library catalog, locate a specific book and check it out without having to bring it to the circulation desk or a self-checkout machine. The Gamification design is interesting and efficiently. 2. Second, the introduction and guide information of the NLPI. Theme Guide allows people to select the route they are interested in to get familiar with the space, services and facilities in NLPI; Smart Guide helps people learn more about the guidance on facilities, barrier-free, fast service and car parking in indoor parking lots. VR Guide helps people navigate the library environment virtually. 3. Third, push notification service. When people get into the NLPI, the APP would deliver the information of exhibitions and activities to users’ mobile devices immediately. In this proposed poster, we will illustrate the design concept, functions, and the application of technologies (Beacon, Wi-Fi AP, cell phone gyroscope, geomagnetic survey, RFID and so on) utilized, and discuss users’ feedback and the future plan about this app.
