Abstract

Transforming students’ lives

Sunway Campus Library (SCL) plays a critical role in transforming students’ lives by transferring to them information literacy skills to last a lifetime. Students are accompanied throughout this journey of discovery, beginning with an orientation programme and tour, followed by information skills workshops specifically focused on their field of study and eventually to specific research topic-oriented workshops, which includes citation software like EndNote when they begin their projects. Supplementary workshops conducted on requests include plagiarism, citation styles, and additional citation software Mendeley. Ongoing assistance include personal assistance at the Help Desk and writing assistance through the Academic Language Learning Service provided by English lecturers but located in the Library. All necessary hardware and software are in place in the Library. Ideal research spaces, including individual and group study areas like Quiet Areas, Silent Zone, Training Rooms, Group Project Pods and Collaborative Zones are provided. SCL’s support goes beyond students’ graduation, as SCL to opens its doors to the alumni, providing them lifelong membership to access resources and facilities to progress in their careers. SCL has achieved ISO 9001:2015, QS rating of 5-star for Facilities and was voted as the no.1 in Asia for the physical library in the i-Graduate Survey of 2016.
