Abstract

UNIMAS IR – Repository, Visibility and Excellence

UNIMAS Institutional Repository (UNIMAS IR) is an information system capable of capturing, preserving and providing access to the intellectual output produced by the members of the university. UNIMAS IR has opened an opportunity for the Centre for Academic Information Services (CAIS) to be directly involved in the initiative of the university in ensuring the information pertaining to the intellectual treasure of the university is captured, managed, preserved, accessed and shared. This is in line with the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN) which is to enhance access and sharing of knowledge, inculcate lifelong learning and develop human capital. Within the specific context of academia, UNIMAS IR may contribute to the enhancement of the institution's prestige and nourish the ideal of an "institutional memory", because it manages and preserves relevant informational items that otherwise would remain scattered, unattended or inaccessible.
