Abstract

Taiwan Memory - Showcase the transformation of digital services over a decade

The National Central Library in Taiwan presents an ongoing platform ‘Taiwan Memory’ to showcase the transformation of digital services in multiple aspects over a decade. ‘Taiwan Memory’ starts at 2002, and has a new version in 2018 to reflect the updated ICT technology. For example, optimize ‘Taiwan Memory’ mobile suitable. Users can browse the searching result according to different facets (time, people, location, and related keywords). ‘Taiwan Memory’ has abundant collection of images and documents related to Taiwan’s early modern history. The public can search over two million digital objects on the platform, including old photos, art posters, land contracts, lottery tickets, senior yearbooks, church archives, rubbings, and so on. In order to enhance the accessibility of these digital collections, series exhibitions are curated both online and on site. For example, one exhibition focuses on education transformation using images from the 19th century to modern times. It welcomes audiences to share photos together regarding their school memories. To sum up, libraries can grasp the potentials and opportunities hailed by new technologies to become a truly relevant memory institution.
