Abstract

The Buggy Ride @Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda Library, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia

In striving for an excellent service to the general public, PPAS has for the past three (3) years been providing buggy ride to the visitors and users. This particular facility is to serve and to convenient them by providing a mean of transportation to and from the parking lots and the library. The service has excited most of PPAS users and patrons and has in fact attracted many school children and the parents to come to the library more regularly. Under an ordinary day, normally the visitors will take about 10 to 15 minute walk to reach up to the library building. It is rather exhaustive and can be a deterrent to the users having in their mind to walk for a distance of about 1.1 km. The buggy ride, though it is only for a 5-minutes ride from the parking lots, has proven to be a time and energy saving effort. It is safe and keeps them off the blazing sun at times and even from the drizzles during the rainy days. It is anticipated that by end of 2017, when the terrace parking lots are completed in the construction, the buggy service will be enhanced in its importance in connecting between service and hospitality to the users. In this respect, beside the number of buggies to be increased from the present four (4) units, the management has in fact recruited and organized special staff to operate and run these buggies, and trained them to serve the users with utmost enthusiasm. The service seems is here to stay as one of the integral facilities available at only PPAS public library in Malaysia. From the record when it was first introduced, the number of users has increased tremendously. In the final analysis, the introduction of the buggy ride was never a bad decision on the part of the management. As goes the saying, excellent service is the art of sustainability.
