Abstract

"Motive Seeds Project" for Children’s Reading Promotion - Documentary of Public Activities by Wuhan Children’s Library

Wuhan is a large beautiful city in central China with millions of children. In reality, there are few public reading services for children, which is difficult to meet its rapid economical development and the longings for getting more knowledge and reading more books from city people, esp. millions of children. In order to make children love books, be fond of reading and enjoy themselves in librarian atmosphere, the series of “Motive Seeds for Reading Promotion” activities have been carried out by Wuhan Children Library. The activities started on “International Children’s Book Day” (April 2nd.2013) with a team of reading promotion volunteers and a van full of children books and appliances entering a primary school campus. From then on various reading activities were offered by Wuhan Children’s Library, such as telling stories for children, providing face-to-face communications for writers and children readers, holding parties to perform children plays or read aloud poetries, and inviting folk artists to pass on “old crafts” to children…. The services were sent to communities, schools, kindergartens, public plazas, and so on. Now in society, there are more and more people from different fields joining the colleagues of Wuhan Children’s Library in reading promotion activities. There are also more and more social organizations and institutions united to WCL. “Motive Seeds” have travelled thousands of kilometers and benefited thousands of people, especially children. Therefore, Cultural Ministry of the People’s Republic of China has awarded Wuhan Children’s Library the title “Demonstrative Project” in the years 2014 and 2015 respectively.
