Abstract

The Access to Cultural Heritage for the Blind and Partially Sighted

There will be shown the special moments – photographs of the specific Lithuanian Library for the Blind and Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania project "Educational Program "The Access to Cultural Heritage for the Blind and Partially Sighted" (project was funded by Lithuanian Council for Culture). The aim of this unique project, which was carried out in 2015, was to make the documentary heritage that is preserved in Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania accessible for the blind and partially sighted Lithuanian people. The project was carried out so successfully that the organizers from both libraries are eager to share the great experience with the international community. The participants of the project – blind and partially sighted people were able to see and feel the spirit of old books and documents by touching their copies, also they had the opportunity to make the handmade paper by themselves. For some of the participants such an experience was the first in their lives – their feelings and emotions they felt by doing this activity is fixed in the photographs that are going to be on the poster.
